Thinly slice the onions and put them into a large skillet or Dutch oven, where the olive oil has been heating up, over medium-high heat. Add salt / freshly ground pepper to season. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally until they have reached a deep brown color, 30-40 minutes. Add vermouth to deglaze the pan and continue cooking until the wine has cooked off. Set onions aside.
Form the ground turkey into three patties. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Add burgers to a skillet and cook until they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees. At the end of cooking, add 2 slices of cheddar cheese to each burger. Cover the skillet, which will allow the cheese to become melty.
While the burgers are cooking, toast the buns in a skillet using butter, which is spread on the insides of each bun. You can also toast them in the oven.
Slice the avocado and place a desired amount on the bottom bun halves.
When the burgers are finished cooking place them atop the avocado, on the bottom bun halves. Then add a healthy amount of caramelized onions, followed by the top bun half. Add Frank’s Hot Sauce at any point, if desired.
Enjoy!
Points to Consider
These are delicious.
Obviously you could use ground beef or ground chicken.
The onions take a long time to caramelize, but the end result is well worth it.
You may wish to add ingredients / seasonings of preference, such as sautéed mushrooms, tomato, lettuce a different kind of cheese, or condiments of choice. There is no end to what you could add.
